I have rosetta running in the background all the time, Rosetta's screen saver would not work properly, kept freezing, so I am back using the window screen saver. My question is, Can I keep rosetta running in the background and say use the seti screen saver and number crunch for them at the same time. If so how do I set it up.

Thanks

Sorry but no, the screensaver is the curently running BOINC application.

My personal theory is that Rosetta@Home (or the BOINC/Rosetta@Home interface) is having some problems with ATI cards, so if it's freezing, just stop using the screensaver until this problem is fixed.

Just to add weight/destroy my theory what graphics card do you have?

Edit:

I re-read you post, and I think I know what you are getting at, it may be possible to have two instances of BOINC and only show one of the application's graphics, but I have know idea if this is possible.

Two things to check if you are having screen saver problems, first make sure you using the latest compatible drivers for you graphics cards & the latest DirectX, there are quite a few revisions to DirectX 9.0c
Pop here http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.mspx and install the latest version.

Anyways for what you ask, not really. It may be possible but you would propably have to have to seperate installations of BOINC.

Install the first instance to one directory and setup Rosetta@home on that one.
Install the second instance and setu it up as the screen saver only, attach it to seti@home.

You will then have to start the rosetta boincmgr.exe (or boinc.exe -redirectio) yourself or via a shortcut in the startup folder.

Well the screensaver is now working, and it is an ATI card. I think I will leave well enough alone, I have a history of terminating computers.

Is the screen saver necessary for the operation of the software, or can it be disabled with no repercussions?

No it is not necessary. The program runs just fine without it, in fact if you set your screen to go blank in as short a time as you can put up with, Boinc will crunch faster.

Rosetta crunch faster if you keep the graphic CLOSED! Cause if it is open, the cpu must also compute it, if you close it, there is more power for Rosetta (of course this apply to all other projects)
