I would very much like to see some money and time spent on upgrading the client to work with nVidia 8 series GPU's. There is a nice SDK out now fron nvidia so it won't be too hard. Why is it worth spending time on? Because one graphics card (which a lot of people will have soon, especially gamers) can add 518 GIGAflops to the project! Thats more powerful than a PS3 I believe, and a percentage of rosettas current total processing power. From one machine! That kind of power cold finish an entire work unit in a few minutes! I rekon thats definately worth spending dome time on... Anyone else agree? |

I don't think anyone disagrees. It is simply a matter of bending all the programs to work properly in a new processor environment. It is not a trivial matter. Most people don't view the Q&A message boards very often. You might want to participate in one of the various threads that are already in progress on the Number Crunching board.
