Are there any publications on Rosetta@home's research on Alzheimer's disease (or amyloids in general) per the work mentioned in this thread? yes, there are two papers published thus far, and some extremely exciting (but preliminary) results on designed peptides that may block fibrils from forming. André I, Bradley P, Wang C, Baker D (2007). Prediction of the structure of symmetrical protein assemblies. Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. U.S.A. 104, 17656-61. Thompson MJ, Sievers SA, Karanicolas J, Ivanova MI, Baker D, Eisenberg D (2006). The 3D profile method for identifying fibril-forming segments of proteins. Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. U.S.A. 103, 4074-8. the work on modelling the structure of abeta (alzheimer's disease) has not yet been published |

That's very cool! I wonder if you are familiar with the work of biogerontologist Aubrey de Grey and his SENS platform? Quick overview available from his TED talk video: http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/aubrey_de_grey_says_we_can_avoid_aging.html And more details in his book: "Ending Aging", co-authored with Michael Rae. |
