Message 97116 - Posted: 1 Jun 2020, 13:05:05 UTC - in response to Message 97114.

[snip]
I could not install the Android one on my phone, it said "App not installed, the package appears to be corrupt".

I had to uninstall the (newer) existing version first. It was running 7.16.5 already, so it was rejecting the downgrade, but not stating that!

I wonder why they've given it a lower version number than a previous one?

Are you sure the phone previously running 7.16.5 was running the Android operating system? If it was previously running 7.16.5, it had to be running some other operating system for which that version exists, and is therefore unable to install any software meant for Android.

I went there for Android and the latest beta version is showing 7.16.3 from Oct 2019
I grabbed it but I'm not sure the new certificate has been applied yet - files not yet uploading

Blimey, minimum spare storage space default is 215Gb - I thought it read 215Mb at first. A setting of 1 = 1.1Gb
A WCG task came down, but 2 Rosetta tasks still waiting to upload.
Not sure if that's due to continuing pressure on the server or the security cert still not being right.
I finally got 1 task to upload on my PC, getting past the server timeout

Yes, Android 7.0, nothing special, not even rooted. That version I believe is a Beta, somebody mentioned you can get it from "APKPure" which I've never heard of. Not sure where I got it from.

One possible exception - you might be involved in BOINC alpha testing, and therefore have access to versions so new I haven't read about them yet. However, if that were true, you would already know enough about BOINC that you wouldn't be asking me much of anything.

I might have ticked or signed up to something. But I don't think I'm signed up for anything like that.

Rosettas do, LHCs don't. But Rosetta did something at their end since people who've not changed anything locally are getting through.

The Android Boinc has some weird defaults. The first thing I did was to go through all the preferences. Like I don't want to be thanked for participating every time I turn on the screen. And I don't want it to stop computing when I turn on the screen or unplug the charger. It can run Boinc for 10 hours on battery (it's not one of those slim Iphones that makes a 30 minute call and goes flat!), I just set it to leave 30% battery free.

My Android phone still can't upload results. Someone posted a workaround for PC, download first and then upload, I tried, it doesn't apply to Android. Can't download new WU either. Anyone has any solution? Does the administator know about this?

Working seamlessly for me, even before changing anything at my end. What version of Boinc is on your Android device? Are you attached to Rosetta with http or https?

Well, I was going to come back and install 7.16.7 this morning, because the other things suggested hadn't done it And I find that I have WUs happily cooking along. so cleasrly the cure wasn't at this end to begin with.

Rosetta sorted it at their end. The new Boinc fixes LHC. LHC haven't fixed their end yet, which is annoying me because my phones won't work on it now. The new Android Boinc doesn't seem to fix anything.

I notice Rosetta are getting lots of tasks done and LHC aren't. They need to fix their SSL or they will lose "customers".

I don't know. Chose the project from the BOINC list, version is 7.4.53

I'm not sure how you can tell on Android, I looked on mine and it's very limited with information.

Best just to upgrade to the new version of Boinc.

for two work units I got very little credit

https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/result.php?resultid=1193838376

https://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/result.php?resultid=1193967941

can anyone tell me why
thanks

Message 97171 - Posted: 2 Jun 2020, 21:31:34 UTC

It is not the first time that I see in the stderr of the completed workunit error messages like this:

Error in `../../projects/boinc.bakerlab.org_rosetta/rosetta_4.20_x86_64-pc-linux-gnu': free(): invalid pointer: 0x00000000067bd783

Nonetheless, at the end of the stderr there is the number of decoys computed, example:
======================================================
DONE :: 1 starting structures 7183.36 cpu seconds
This process generated 38 decoys from 38 attempts
======================================================

And credits are given.

The problematic WUs of today were:
dongrz_42_42_out_file_0527_d1a75a_4AS_pb_ASW0_TERM14_length60_0095_fragments_abinitio_SAVE_ALL_OUT_942476_1285_0
and
f833377c4525b0718d971c3d5b05283b_fold_SAVE_ALL_OUT_939475_49_0

All the others computed by this host today were free of error.

Are the results still useful or will they be discarded?
I do not want to waste computing power, so if my old laptop is the problem (Intel T7250, 4GB Ram, year 2007) i will use it for other projects where it does not give any error.
Thank you.

credits are a conondrum sometimes - not only here, at other projects as well, particularly at LHC. And no one so far was ever able to explain.

That's dreadful. And all your other tasks give you 100x as much.
Never seen anything that bad before

For several days there has been such a problem:
Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site
Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down.

The same problem was at the LHC, but he has already started.

Maybe I've figured out your problem.
Look at the stderr of your low-credit WUs:

======================================================
DONE :: 1 starting structures 28571 cpu seconds
This process generated 107 decoys from 107 attempts
======================================================
BOINC :: WS_max 3.3083e+08
09:29:24 (1807): called boinc_finish(0)
======================================================
DONE :: 1 starting structures 28798.1 cpu seconds
This process generated 1 decoys from 1 attempts
======================================================
BOINC :: WS_max 1.61755e+08
09:39:51 (18194): called boinc_finish(0)

and

======================================================
DONE :: 1 starting structures 10694.4 cpu seconds
This process generated 64 decoys from 64 attempts
======================================================
BOINC :: WS_max 0
11:53:27 (15922): called boinc_finish(0)
======================================================
DONE :: 1 starting structures 10791 cpu seconds
This process generated 1 decoys from 1 attempts
======================================================
BOINC :: WS_max 0
11:59:28 (20970): called boinc_finish(0)

It looks like there is a duplicate declaration of how many decoys were computed (don't ask me why); so my hypothesis is that since the credit system is based on the number of decoys computed it sees only the second declaration of your wu ignoring the first one.
I don't know if this problems affects only credits or also science done by the wu.[/quote]

This is the latest Android version unless I use the BETA. Anyway, I deleted Rosetta from the only phone that can run it. So long, Rosetta.

Last update broke connectivity with Rosetta@home seems for all my systems.
Even completed results can't upload.

And I have currently no time to implement fixes through whole fleet.
So, Einstein@home now.
Better to think twice before such radical changes.
EDIT: seems whole BOINC issue. Well, saves for electricity then.
