For the last three times I have tried to compute Rosetta I have occurered an error, exit code -164 with a hex code.

I am running a number of BOINC projects and would like to run rosetta from time to time.

While this is guidance is expected to change in the next few days. For now you should set your preferences to "Keep application in memory" = YES. You might also want to set the time between application swaps to something like 90 - 120 min.

The idea is to prevent Rosetta from being removed from memory. There is more detailed information in the Rosetta FAQ (linked from my signature) on all of this.
