Perhaps this question belongs in a general BOINC forum, I don't know. But I notice that the great majority of the disk space in use by BOINC on my computers (nearly 2 GB on the one where I'm typing) is attributed to Rosetta, but there are no Rosetta tasks running or waiting to start (or waiting to run, or ready to report, or uploading, or downloading...) Is there anything I can do to to free up the space? Is there a way to detect orphanned data on disk if there are tasks running? Does my query belong elsewhere?

Detach from the project.
When you connect to a project, and download your first Tasks, you also download all the executable & support files required to process those Tasks. If you've been with a project for some time, and they have several different applications, and they have developed several versions of them over time, then you will have copies of all those applications & versions, and any support files they need in order to run.


If you Reset a project, you will dump all current work, and remove all executables & support files. New ones will be downloaded as needed the next time your system tries to get work for that project, so if you've been with a project for a long time you may free up some space by getting rid of no longer used executables, and any support files related specifically to them. But the amount of space re-claimed probably won't be all that much.
The only way to free up the space permanently is to detach from the project and leave it all together.
