I admit that long signatures and photos as signatures bug me. They prejudice my opinions of what members post.

I have selected "Hide avatar images", "Hide signatures", and "Show images as links" so I can read without all of the visual distractions, and hopefully I can be less prejudiced.

Am I the only one?

No, not for sigs. Which browser do you have? If you have Mozilla Firefox, you can get the Adblock extention, which can block unwanted pictures. So if I see somebody with some specially annoying sig-pics, I simply block them with Adblock. Text-sigs are not so annoying, IMHO, except those with huge font-size and weird colors.

I don't have images shown as links here, but I have on the Seti boards. And I like to see people's avatars, they makes it easier to see posts by certain people, and you can scroll up or down fast and only look for the avatar to find a post.

As for the postersize sigs, if you participate in many projects, your stats-sig is long. But then again, with Adblock I can block those which are half a page long.

I like very much myself to have a sentence in my sig also, a statement of some kind, and right now I have a quote by myself "I'm trying to maintain a shred of dignity in this world", which I think describes me as I am, besides my stats-sig. I don't know if some thinks it's annoying, but I don't care.

"I'm trying to maintain a shred of dignity in this world." - Me

Ah! Time to revive the "10 Ways to Improve your Forum Experience" thread.

I have AdBlocked all stats signatures for quite some time already plus "hide signatures" plus "Show images as links" - but the avatars are something that doesn't disturb me and allow to find forum entries faster sometimes.

p.s.: some avatars are really funny or cute too, I liked especially Carl.h's "teddy looking for a new home", which he has found here (the home, not the teddy) ;-)

For The Possums recruiting threads, having pictures enabled is necessary too, they are always worth looking at.

Which browser do you have?

I used Firefox from early beta until IE 7.0 Beta started. I currently prefer IE 7.0.

How about a link, Angus? (I hope it isn't a sticky because I don't keep those at the top of the index...)

Personally I keep the avatars on as they don't really get in the way and aid in knowing where I am in a post (I hope the new mods get a big red MOD avater so you notice them a bit more)

Large sigs do annoy me, that's why I use mundayweb as I can restrict the size. With the amount of projects there are now, boincstats-sigs are getting out of hand.

Very large images in posts (that would better be linked to by thumbnailed views) are also a pain in the general posting area. Don't mind so much in the cafe as that's what it is for.

Vester if you liking IE7 (which I'm growing to like more, I've still never really got on with FireFox but do use it on my laptop where it works well). Though I do have problems with it's stability on all the computers I've used it on :-(
You should give Maxthon 2 (not out yet but a public beta of version 2 is out.)
It's like an enhanced IE7, very well laid out. (I've used Maxthon for agea now)

Thanks for the tip, FC. I've done longer posts with Notepad because of IE 7.0 crashes and CNN videos give it fits. MS advised after my last crash and error report that the problem is fixed in Vista RC1.

Edit: Since I am running Windows Vista Beta 2, I shouldn't test Maxthon http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Browsers/Maxthon-Combo.shtml.
Maxthon Combo (Formerly MyIE2) is a powerful multi-page browser based on the IE core (IE5.x or IE 6.0 required).

If Maxthon crashed, it could be because of IE 7.0+ in Vista.

Maxthon is basically a wrap around Internet Explorer (or any webbrowser engine for that matter, just happens to be IE)
Works fine with IE7 (though not sure about the IE7+ you use in Vista).
It's like using firefox but in the IE browsing mode.

Though the older pre-v2 works nicely, v2 beta is much more IE7.

Link for you, of course you can always uninstall it with no problems :-)
