have a dell 710m. must i keep it on for RH to work,or can it hibernate or standby? thanx ~nj

You can hibernate or standby if you want (it doesn't harm anything) but as you suspect, during that time it will do no work for rosetta since in both states the computer is effectively 'stopped'. Of course you can put your monitor/lcd into standby/off as that has no effect.

Both 'pause' the computer as such.
