Rosetta dies with an application error and freezes the screen. I have a devil of a time even getting the system rebooted to allow me to continue using the system. I am going to stop Rosetta from using my system since this is the only project that does this. I have been running Rosetta, Climateprediction, einstein and SETI. Rosetta is the only one that dies and freezes my system. Is there a fix? |

You should pop inot the main message board area and find the thread(s) about the 5.32 rosetta client in the number crunching section. But there are some bad tasks around at the moment, though they shoudn't cause your computer to freeze. But without mor information on how you run BOINC and your computer setup it's hard to say. Recently Windoze updated & restarted both my computers. Since then I've had a problem with freezes, needing to restart by powering off computers. I changed from the Rosetta screensaver to a generic, and the problem seems to have stopped. Might work for you also. |

Just to provide a sample system, my PC also had this issue this evening. At some point Rosetta stopped functioning but did not gracefully exit so the last Rosetta image was frozen on the screen. Moving my mouse around the screen I could see the pointer icon change to indicate that it was hovering over other windows hidden "behind" the frozen Rosetta image. ALT-TAB and CTRL-ALT-DEL did not clear the screen, although I assume the Task Manager may have opened in the background, I couldn't see it. Fortunately I remembered the keyboard shortcuts to shutdown without having to do a cold boot. Rosetta has crashed a few times in the past month (SETI@Home does not) but this is the first time it's frozen like this. Some error handling could keep it from choking like this. You should pop inot the main message board area and find the thread(s) about the 5.32 rosetta client in the number crunching section. I have a 2.8 GHz Window XP SP2 Media Center. I usually have Outlook, Opera, Macaffe Security Center and BIONC up. I have Climateprediction, Einstein, SETI and was running ROSETTA projects with each getting 25% of my CPU. ROSETTA would get an application error about every 2-3 days and freeze the display. I have given up on ROSETTA since none of the other projects seem to have a problem with my system. Unfortunantly I didn't capture the error message with ROSETTA since I found it very hard to do anything once ROSETTA died and froze my display. I noticed that another user was having a similier problem. |
