When the program updates, it gets to this file (Rosetta_5.24_windows_intelx36.exe) and tries to download it. It gets to 89.47% and gets stuck.....and doesn't completely download all the way. It's been stuck for 10 days. What do I do?

Assuming all of your prior tasks are now completed and reported... I'd cancel the transfer in the transfers tab, abort all of the R@H tasks (the task identifies the version required to run it) in the tasks tab, and then go to the projects tab, select Rosetta, and click the RESET PROJECT button.

This should result in new tasks, which will use Rosetta 5.34 instead. This is about an 8MB file. So, it does take a reliable internet connection to complete the download.

You could also download the .exe directly if you like. Save it to the following path:
C:Program FilesBOINCprojectsboinc.bakerlab.org_rosetta

Roughly the same as Feet1st's advice, except to add that possibly you will have one or more tasks that are still showing Downloading. If these have bben there throughout then don't worry about them, abort the download as he suggests.

When you abort the download, these should change status to "Download Failed". If they don't, abort them. It is considered courteous to report these failed takss (click update) before resetting the project. This helps the project admins keep track of why work did not come back.

The file is still not going. I've tried to get it from the site you told me to but it gets to the same point in the file where it fails in BOINC and it gets stuck too.

I do have BOINC on my laptop, which has no problems downloading any of the files. It is on a network so what I did was I copied the whole BOINC directory over to the machine that is having problems. It runs fine for a while....until it tries to download the same file AGAIN!

If I copy the directory from my laptop to the problem machine......what do I do at that point to let the Rosetta know that the file is there so it doesn't try to go out and get it?

I also have no problem downloading the beta version of 5.25.....so maybe I could run that, but I have no idea how to do that.

Do you mean 5.34?

There is a new version from today, 5.36, so you may want to try resetting again, maybe dettach and reattach.

I have put the 5.34 .exe file here so you can try and download it from there if you like, (click link and choose "Save", or right click and choose "Save Target as..."). You should move it to BOINC/Projects/boinc.bakerlab.org_rosetta/ on whatever disk you installed it.

It might get you the file, but might not solve your problem, as if you cannot download from the project site, you may have problems with other files. It may help narrow down the problem though.

I'll leave the file there for a few days.

It must be the file.....I can't download it from there. It gets to 88% and stops. I can get the file via the network from the laptop. What needs to be done after the file is in the directory?

Okay....I got it from the laptop and reset the project. After resetting, the updated 5.36 is trying to download. Same result....it gets to 89.42% and freezes.

I've tried detatching and reattaching, deleting the project folder and starting from scratch, defragging the computer (and some other utils - which were all okay), transfering the file from the laptop to no avail.

I'll try to get 5.36 on the laptop and then transfer it over to the problem computer to see if that works.

Okay....I think I found the problem. Our internet connection (for some reason) won't download these files. I can download them from home, but not at work. I've tried a few different computers and it gets stuck at 88%-89%. Just that file too....I can download other files (larger and smaller) from different sites.

Maybe if it is zipped it would work.

If it is the .exe file, perhaps you can get away with copying it into the right directory from a usb drive.

The issue could be that the company firewall is deliberatley filtering .exe files, or ditto their virus checker. If it is the fw then copying from a usb drive will work round it, if it is the virus checker then you will at least know.

The client will still want to download the file, but the download process should spot that it is already there and complete almost instantly.

If the file will copy in OK but BOINC still does not recognise it, come back and ask for advice about giving BOINC an app xm, file.

River is right. A lot of companies block executables, and some other things. If your company is okay about running BOINC, (a lot are not - you don't want to get fired do you), then your network admin should be able to adjust the security protocols in order to allow such downloads.

I'll remove the .exe from my server now as it is no longer needed there.
