So the new BOINC Simple GUI is in testing with the 5.7.x series, at last the specifications for the simple icons and slideshow graphics. So it would be very nice if Rosetta@Home (and Ralph@Home) would help in the testing :-) First and formost create a logo icon so it looks correct in the display. Then worry about the slidshow. Here are the links Project Graphics in the BOINC simple GUI I even have a logo set at 40x40 ready if needed Then a skin could be developed as well http://boinc.berkeley.edu/manager_skin.php Team mauisun.org |

Any good or otherwise artist here that can create some Rosetta@home skins? Would be nice to get some tested so they are ready from the start :-) Team mauisun.org |

Hope you get some takers. I would like to see some great R@H icons and skins in the new version as well. They have got sidetracked by improvign beginner support and some have got sidetracked in thinking up elaborate schemes about karma... The first is not a bad thing, luckily that what Dr Anderson is interested in. I think there will be a slight delay as Rom Walton, the person who releases and mainly develops the windows version (and the Boinc Simple GUI) is currently moving. You can download 5.7.5 at the moment and have a play though. I started yesterday to create a skin. I have 1 icon done so far :-) Team mauisun.org |

Hope you get some takers. I would like to see some great R@H icons and skins in the new version as well. He is hoping, he just started asking questions about it again in the developer/alpha lists. As long as no major bugs come up it should be released :-). Probably just a few tweaks here and there. (still only got that one icon done, lol) Team mauisun.org |

I've just finnished my first template of skin.xml with all of the files. I will have to check everything to make sure all is okay, then I'll put it somewhere so everybody can just edit the graphical files, to skin it themselves. Where you will want the edit the skin.xml I'll put the word "Template" so you can just search through it and get to the relevant sections. I havn't yet added the <pt_BR> </pt_BR> <pt> </pt> in it so it just goes to <en> ... </en> section. I also need to do a little more research on the workunit_animation_image, I know I saw it somewhere of how to get it going, but it wasn't at this page (unless I've gone line blind. Basically I went here and then made a proper template out of it by getting rid of all the specific filenames and changing them to generic filenames, (which go rid of the capitals in FileNames, never a good thing to do ;) )got rid of all the non-existant stuff (future improvments? ) And commented the file. I added some really bad buttons, but I though that it would be better than have white buttons on a white background :) I will have at it tomorrow. I kept the .png, but I was wondering if .jpg wouldn't be better, thoughts anyone? |

I've just finnished my first template of skin.xml with all of the files. PNG gives better compression of text and transparency. There are two more buttons added now, but you'll not see them in 5.7.5 as the graphics went in after that. I could send you all the default boinc ones if you want. One we have a skin setup we could make it multilingual if anyone want it. As for the slideshow graphics, I thought that was done project side. ( If it is it's the first link in the first post) Team mauisun.org |

I'd would be great if there are any volunteers out there willing to help generate an official skin for Rosetta@home. Please post here if you are interested. |

I'm still trying to set up a template that has no errors, somewhat frustrating I must say. I have no idea why some of the dialog background images won't work as they're the same size as the ones that do work :? Are these bit depth sensitive or somthing, surely not DPI sensitive? Here is a look at what I've done so far, on the front page (so to speak). I will attempt to track down the other bugs. I just realised, I didn't read the <image></image> tag properly, that will get rid of quite a few errors. Edit: for some reason it dosn't show the bottom of the picture on my computer unless I refresh |

I have stopped. I now realise that I was naive, as I can't stop the need to edit the .xml file to just a few places (as I had hoped). I now have an error free skin, that is (as far as I can tell) pointless to release, as I haven't commented the .xml file well, and the true graphical artists should/will use stencils (layers) to create their works. Not that I think my time was wasted, I learnt a lot, including being stunned about the talent that is out there, not just in skinning but in the use of such programmes as POV-ray, The Gimp, Bender etc... It has been a eye-opening trip/education into the world of graphical artists. |
