Hi people i just switched on to BOINC, after running FAD for about a year. My first PC install when pretty smoothly, however I got a bit cocky for the net one. After installing the BOINC utility (Winders) I tried to connect thru the other PC that was already up and running, I noticed you needed a password to access the other PC. Having a look on the forum, I found the "gui_rpc_auth.cfg" file and had look in there...I didn't want to use that long string of numbers and letters so I hanged it to something I could remember..BAD MOVE.. now I can't even acess the localhost acount on the said PC as the password is wrong! I guess I should have made a backup of the original file! Anyway countless attempts at removing and re-installing BOINC on that particular PC have resulted in no access to the localhost account..forget accessing it thru the first PC..it won't even run as a standalone. So can anyone tell me how I need to reset or re-configure or re-install so that the localhost password is active again? BTW this is not my BOINC account password but the actual installation password as randomly generated by BOINC. Thanks in advance for any help.

Just exiting and restarting the client is usually enough to get the new password recognized, if not use the standard winders fix--reboot. It is probably a good idea to stick to alphanumeric characters, special characters may cause problems with the parser.

Ok will try that the reboot then..I tried restarting the client numerous times to no avail..also a fresh install doesn't "appear" to genereate a new gui_rpc_auth.cfg file.. so I'm wondering if its a new password or the original one, from when I first installed..only time will tell me thinks

Thanks for the advice BTW

EXCELLENT the reboot did the trick..although not straight away..auto loading of BOINC on startup gave me a invalid password message from the taskbar..didn't look good from there..but I looked at the gui_rpc_auth.cfg file..AND THERE WAS A PASSWORD IN THERE!!! So I put it in and YIPPEE it connected to localhost!
Thanks for the tip Keck_Komputers I won't be doing that again..till I forget about it! lol
