I searched for errors like mine but didn't see a fix. I installed a new q6600 with 2 gbs of memory, new install of xp pro and downloaded new boinc client. I had memory errors so i bought new memory and ran memtest and the new memory is fine. now i am getting these errors and i can't communicate with server for 24 hrs. Any help would be appreciated. core_client_version>5.10.13</core_client_version> <![CDATA[ <message> Incorrect function. Sally, it looks like your host is having trouble accessing a file and this is causing the tasks to all fail. Suggest you go to the advanced view of BOINC manager, highlight the Rosetta project name, then click the "reset project" button over on the left. This will download a fresh copy of all the project standard files. Have you done anything special with the authorities set up on your machine? Sometimes problems accessing files are due to permissions. The servers have been stressed by the load lately and they are working on an upgrade. But perhaps there was a hic-cup during your original download of the project files. So the reset project will try that complete download again. Rosetta Moderator: Mod.Sense |

The only difference is that this is a quad core versus dual core . Same Installation procedures as all others. I do believe i did reset the project on this box yesterday before it said that i can not communicate with the server for 24hrs. It download at 4am eastern this morning and all units failed again. I will try uninstalling and deleting Boinc and downloading and installing again. Thanks |

Hello SallyH :) I just built a BOX with P5K-E MB, Q6600 including the accompanying stock heatsink/fan, EVGA-e-Geforce 7600 gs, 2gb of ram and a Vista Ultimate os. I have no problem running Rosetta@home work units. My PROBLEM IS HIGHER TEMP AT FULL LOAD. My CoreTemp readings : core#0=63C, core#1=62C, core#2=60C and core#3=62C. I am concerned with the high temp. I am looking for a better cooling heatsink/fan. I hope someone can suggest a better heatsink/fan. joseps:) I turned off my 5computers when I went on vacation. When I return today, I can not upload work. Need work units to run computers. joseps |

Joseps, until you resolve the heatsink issues, you might adjust the amount of time BOINC should use the processor. Just adjusting it down to 80 or 90% can make a significant difference in heat levels. Rosetta Moderator: Mod.Sense |

My CoreTemp reading has gone down to core#0=58C, core#1=57C, core#2=54C and Core#3=57C. I have been running this QUAD BOX 14hrs/day. I hope the current lower temp reading will not burn my processor. Thanks. joseps:) I turned off my 5computers when I went on vacation. When I return today, I can not upload work. Need work units to run computers. joseps |

Not sure why you run 14hrs. But just thought I'd point out that you would get more overall crunching done if you run at 50% of CPU for 24 hours a day. And perhaps be at heat levels you are more comfortable with. ...as for someone suggesting a good heatsink or fan, you might post asking about that on the Number Crunching message board. I have researched and found that the ZALMAN CNPS9700 will be my best bet. I have returned 2 different brands. Hopefully I can be at peace with it, cause I may upgrade my other boxes to quad. I enjoyed crunching Rosetta@home.Thanks a lot. joseps:) I turned off my 5computers when I went on vacation. When I return today, I can not upload work. Need work units to run computers. joseps |

Actually quad core cpu's can handle those temperatures. I have a q6600 myself and when Idle my cpu temp of all my cores is about 56 degrees celcius and when crunching the temperatures are stable at 65-70 degrees celcius. I also noticed that the temperatures really are different between some users, I have seen users claiming to have a temperature of 50 degrees celcius while having 100 % cpu usage. Higher temperatures (esp at max cpu usage) is normale with quad core cpu's. It varries wich stepping you got thou. The new G0 steppings have a much lower temperature but quad cores in general use alot more power in general, more power is more heat. Trying to find a website to prove my statement but I only troll dutch forums wich isn't handy for you guys =) Also it might be handy to use several programs to measure your cpu temperatures |

Actually quad core cpu's can handle those temperatures. I feel relief reading your post. It means my quad box is ok. BUt I have replaced my heatsink/fan. The load temp is lower now and I reduce my cpu run to 65%. Maybe I can run it again at 90% later. joseps:) I turned off my 5computers when I went on vacation.
