I got a message from my firewall that "rosetta_beta_5.80_windows_intelx86.exe" is trying to get on the internet. I allowed it this one time, but I'd like to know if this is normal. All previous connections have been through BOINC. If this is changing, someone should post the fact. These days we're all worried about illicit code getting on our systems and doing who knows what. If this happens again without a response, I may drop Rosetta from my project list. |

I have seen most BOINC project occassionally ask for internet access. This occurs mainly if the project's currently running work unit crashes. In order to create the debug output, the crashed project needs to download the debug symbol tables, especially if the MS OS debug info is not currently on your machine. When I looked at you results, I noticed one failure. So yes, this is normal for any BOINC project. |

Yep, all normal project communication is done via BOINC. It is only the debug information that attempts to contact the project directly. If you prefer to deny that direct connection, your task will still be reported through the normal channels. But the project would then have to rely on the debug information sent in by someone else to correct the problem. Rosetta Moderator: Mod.Sense |
