Have downloaded latest version of BOINC (5.10.28) and it ran OK for a day or so, now all applications (SETI, Rosetta, Climate Prediction, LHC, Einstein) all fail instantly as per messages below. No change in hardware, not overclocked. I've tried removing & reinstalling BOINC, all to no avail - any ideas? 14/11/2007 12:53:42|rosetta@home|Starting RpR3_w003_CONTROL_ABRELAX_2292_33096_0 14/11/2007 12:53:44|rosetta@home|[error] Process creation failed: Access is denied. I used the BOINC installer to remove BOINC, and then reinstalled it. |

I used the BOINC installer to remove BOINC, and then reinstalled it. witch operating system? and in wich folder you installed it when your os is vista and you installed in c:/program files/boinc it could give problems, try to install it in the folder c:/boinc or something like that. but not in the program files folder also you may try to post this problem in the general message bords, cause more people read those and more people can help you there. |

Do you use more then one Windows user ID? Which user installed BOINC? Did you select shared mode? Or service? Or single user mode during the installation? Rosetta Moderator: Mod.Sense |

Yep - and I installed, uninstalled and then reinstalled using that user ID. As I said, the odd thing is that it'd all worked fine for a day or two, and now it's just throwing it's toys out of the pram! |

Seems odd that you have such a problem... and noone else does. Also, since all projects are effected, it seems like there must be a problem with BOINC here (not Rosetta). Is it possible some anit-virus software kicked in and quarantined the BOINC programs or something? What else might be different about your setup then what most people have? The only thing I can think of that's new is the latest version of BOINC (other than normal Norton Antivirus updates) - I've run Norton Antivirus & Zonealarm firewall for a couple of years or more and didn't have any problem at all with any of the BOINC apps. I've not run a Norton system scan since last weekend, i.e. before the download of the latest version of BOINC and before any problems developed. I might email Norton to see if they can suggest anything. |

This was Norton's response: Peter, I suggest that you disable the Norton program completely and then install the bonic software. To disable all the feature of your Norton AntiVirus 2006, please follow the steps given below: 1. Start Norton AntiVirus 2006.2. In the left pane, click on Norton AntiVirus.3. In the right pane, click on Internet Worm Protection.4. Click on Turn Off In the right hand bottom corner of the Norton product.5. If you see a warning message, please select Permanently from the drop down menu and click OK.6. Exit Norton AntiVirus and check for the issue by closing your e-mail client and reopening it.7. Repeat steps 1-6 for the following features one at a time. - Email Scanning.- Auto-Protect.- Spyware Protection. If the issue persists even after disabling all the above features, please note that the issue is not caused by Norton AntiVirus. Please let us know if the issue is resolved. Sad to say it didn't make the slightest difference - I'm rapidly running out of ideas. |

Seems odd that you have such a problem... and noone else does. Also, since all projects are effected, it seems like there must be a problem with BOINC here (not Rosetta). Don't look now, chaps, but I think the problem has been resolved by going back to the older version of BOINC (5.4.11)! On the BOINC website there's a trouble-shooting tab, and recommendation 1 is to delete BOINC using the "add/remove programs" option from the control panel. It then suggests reinstalling BOINC - same result, all apps fall into ruin instantly. It also suggests downloading an older version of BOINC, installing & removing it, then reinstalling the new version. Rather than all that malarkey I just downloaded & reinstalled the old version & unleashed a SETI task on it - this seems to be running normally. If it terminates normally I'll allow new tasks from the other apps. Watch this space for further news - may be several hours before the SETI task finishes. |

I have been having issues with Boinc 5.81. I run these 24 hour long work units and they crash out on me or exit out I can also say around every 30 or 45 minutes where I have to relaunch the screen saver portion or it just exits out with client error message and absent file. Keep in mind I have been running these program for a long time on a known good working computer thats been carefully optimized to give this program more power and I was never having these problems before and I run Boink have ran UD THINK Ligand-Fit and Setti@home for a long time in the past and never had these problems. I am also A+ certified for P.C. Technician and one that works for Firedog and can guarantee these crash/exit/abort (place excuse here)issue isn't caused by my computer! I know this as I examined everything, did my research on what I tuned before I tuned it all of which has no relation to BOINK/Rosetta and have nothing running in the background except services needed for windsocks to run optimally and stable. Iv determined the crashing is caused by the program itself and am getting very upset that I have put in all these hours into computation 23 hours, just for it to crash on the work units 24 hour really TICKS ME OFF ALOT. because this has happened to me the last 3 times or i should say 3 days running. If this program doesnt stop crashing and bakerlab refuses to fix it/cant/wont/whatever (place excuse here) i will just join another project. i would hate to do that but if bakerlab dont care, then why should I? I built this computer so I could run these projects starting back in the day with UD. Please dont be afraid to comment Chris. |

i guess that is 1 of the reason the project is updated again, after just a few weeks, i guess it didn't turned out the way it should. so problems should be over now. |

Just confirmation of an earlier post - the older version of BOINC (5.4.11) is running quite happily & has completed several workunits with no problem. It's also accepted a change of processor (ok, minimal upgrade!) from an XP2500+ to an XP3000+ without a blink - as far as I'm concerned the problem is solved, but I'll regard "new & improved" versions of BOINC with a good deal of suspicion! |
