This has now happened twice. I return to my computer and find that there is a warning message that I have basically no hard drive space. I figured out the culprit by tracking down the Boinc project bins. Apparently Rosetta does something and creates a file (just over 16GB) that brings my machine to its knees.

I figured it was just a glitch thie first time so I wiped out all of my Boinc folders, reinstalled the latest Boinc software, and re-attached to each project. I also checked my preferences to be sure I had not missed something. At the time, I suspected Rosetta, but I figured it was something that would not happen again. After checking my Boinc preferences, I confimed that they will not allow more than 1GB to be used by all Boinc projects.

It just happened again last night. I wiped out the Rosetta bin (deleted the 16GB file), detatched from the project and will need some advice before participating again.

Any ideas?

The only file that can grow beyond the limit you set for BOINC is the error log. If you have a 16GB error log, something major is messed up. This is a text file you should be able to open and read, and see what it's saying. I would suspect something like a missing file, that it tries to find over and over again. If you can correct the underlying error, this one should certainly go away!

Sorry about the last blank post.

Have you ever tried to open a 16gb file? I can only imagine that it would be problematic. Also, I am unsure as to how I would fix anything. The application does not have any options that I can set. I guess it is some strange rare error with Rosetta.

I have been a SETI and BOINC user for years now and have never had any issues like this on my Mac or Windows machines.

change your settings to allow not so much disk space, thats the easiest thing to do...
also set to connect every day, no more.

Thnak you for the reply. I have my settings so that the computer connects several times a day. I also have my preferences set to allow no more than about 1GB of space to be used. Something somewhere is terribly wrong with Rosetta. A re-install of all Boinc projects that included deleting ALL of my Boinc related data :( and update of the preferences was not able to fix it.

It is looking like I am the only person with this particular problem. I will not be able to participate in Rosetta if this problem is not solved. Since detaching from Rosetta, the problem has not occurred.

I have a very similiar issue. The program in the message tab tells me there is only 1g free. However program manager says over 20g is free.
