maybe you still need to free some more space on your computer.

I certainly agree that it seems odd to say zero more is required. But, seems likely your disk space settings are not allowing BOINC to use enough to get work.

What BOINC version are you using? Are you running other projects on the same machine? What version of Windows?

I`m running the latest version of BOINC on WIn XP SP2 and the other project is seti@home and its working fine.

If you go to the advanced view, and preferences, and then to the disk tab... what are your settings there for all of the disk usage attributes?

Sorry I reply so late....so it says:
Use at most 100,00 GB
Leave at least 0,10 GB
Use at most 1% of total disk space
Write to disk 60 secs
Use at most 1% of page file

So, how much would 1% of your disk space be?

And 1% of your page file doesn't seem to give much of a cushion at all.

Could you bump both numbers to at least 10%? And if you are nervous about having enough disk space for other applications, you might increase your setting for "Leave at least".

BOINC will will only use what it needs. But when tasks start, the size of the output file it will produce is unknown. So the project sets a maximum size that it may reach before the BOINC manager cuts it off for growing unexpectedly large. And you'll have to have at least the maximum size available to get started. Even though the actual output will likely be much much smaller.

It worked. I bumped both numbers to 10% and it works fine now. But now on my Seti project it says STATUS : Waiting to run. Why is that?

Well, your computer is more efficient if BOINC just does one thing (per CPU) at a time. So, it will cycle between doing SETI and doing Rosetta (and any other projects). You can define your objective for how much time to spend on each. BOINC calls this "resource share", and you can see it on the projects tab of the advanced view. You can change the setting on the project website in your Rosetta preferences page (click the [ Participants ] on top of this message board page).

Just for your reference, a more typical value for the page file use would be like 50%. Or even more when the machine is idle. So, unless you know you have some other memory intensive applications that you require, or you've had sluggishness in other computer use while BOINC is active, it would be better to give BOINC even more resources that it is allowed to use when needed.

I keep getting this message: "Message from server: Server error: cannot attach shared memory"
Can someone help me what it means. I get this message in one of 3 computers that are running on Windows7 beta. The other 2 computers are running ok. All have multi processors (1 DUAL AND 2 QUADS). I just hope the cause is not my computer. And I wish I could run Windows 7. I have upgraded my Vista to Windows7. I am running Rosetta@home projects in my 5 computers 16 hrs daily.
The only way I can solve this is to switch back to another harddisk drive in same computer which runs ok. But I wish to run Windows-7 on 3 computes until it expires in 6 months.
Thanks very much for your help. joseps
I turned off my 5computers when I went on vacation. When I return today, I can not upload work. Need work units to run computers.

I am sorry I was not careful where to post this. Thank you. But I have already solved the problem by simply uninstalling the McAfee Suite which has incompatibility with Windows 7 beta. Now I am running Rosetta@home projects on 3 computers with Windows 7 beta OS. I suspect these same computers will be recognised as additional computers to my name, simply because I install new OS in new hard drives.
Thanks again. joseps
