I've been trying to figure this out for a while, but it appears that the only workable solution is to keep running the 5.8.16 Windows client in order to run it as a service as the new versions don't appear to be installing a service. Machines in question spend a lot of time not logged in and I want BOINC running during that time. I don't want boinc appearing in the system tray and don't seem to be able to stop this happening if I run the newer versions (even though the instructions suggest that they should work minus icon). I am worried that 1) if the 5.8.16 version is retired that I'm going to be forced to a none service approach. and / or 2) the app will move forward leaving those service based machines behind. Either of those options will ultimately mean that I am no longer able to participate in the BOINC project. Any thoughts or help appreciated - I'm really hoping I'm just missing something simple here and wouldn't have posted except today I realized that this version of the client is almost 2 years old! Thanks in advance, Michael. |

Which Windows edition are you concerned about? Is this an issue specific to Vista? Or a broader BOINC issue? Rosetta Moderator: Mod.Sense |

I thought I remembered someone mentioning this problem on the BOINC dev EMail list But was unable to find it. But the BOINC message boards, or EMail list would be the place to pose the question. Rosetta Moderator: Mod.Sense |

I have done some searching through the message boards and not seen anything relating to this. Any suggestions as to where you saw reference to this problem or where I should post for best effect? Thanks, Michael. |

I think the specific issue you mention is part of the "core client", not the "BOINC Manager" Rosetta Moderator: Mod.Sense |

I think the specific issue you mention is part of the "core client", not the "BOINC Manager" Thank you for your help - I just dropped a post over there at the following address for anyone who might be following the thread and have the same issue where hopefully the thread will continue. http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=3611 |
