Hi,

I would like there were an option in preferences in addition to "Use at most x% cpu" that were in use when you use the computer, and another "Use at most x% cpu" when you don't. This way, when you use your computer you could be using a 10% of your cpu for BOINC, that wouldn't slow down your computer if you're just exploring internet or using some instant messaging program, but when you don't use your computer at all (because you've gone to dinner or you've go down to throw the garbage or something like that) the program raises his activity to, for example, 50% or 100% or wathever you set.

I mean, this can be done manually, I know, but just adding an option like "use at most when active", or better said, dividing the option "use at most" in "use at most when active" and "use at most when no active" or something like that, you wouldn't need to be changing the current "use at most" option, and there would be always BOINC working without slowing down our computer whatever you may be doing, and your cpu usage would be more optimized. What do you think?

That sounds like a good suggestion. That level of detail is handled by the BOINC client, so this board would be the place to offer the suggestion.

You will find that on most machines, provided you have enough memory, BOINC can easily run *up to* 100% and still not interfere with your web browsing etc. This is because it runs at the lowest priority. Your machine only executes BOINC when it has serviced all other tasks first. And with memory being the main point of contention with user activity, there already are settings for memory to allow BOINC to use both for when user is active and inactive. I think you will probably find that you can achieve what you want using the existing settings.

Ok, thank you Mod.Sense, I forgot the execution priorities, but i'm going to propose it there anyway. Thank you, bye!
