Howdy - I've been running Rosetta through Boinc on three computers - 2 Mac's and an HP laptop (Vista). Everything is fine on the Mac's, but on the Vista machine Rosetta periodically drops cpu usage from 100% to <50, and concurrently, the time to complete work shows as 10, 11, 20 or more hours. And at the same time, To Completion time goes up instead of down. It was suggested to Suspend Rosetta for a few minutes, then Resume, but that didn't work, so I restarted the computer, and all Rosetta times reset themselves, only to get weird all over again an hour or so later. So for now I've set Boinc to "No New Tasks." Anyone else had similar trouble, or any solutions?

Thank you in advance.

Which machine is having the problem? Which BOINC version? Are you running other projects too? What is the status shown in the advanced view?

Suggest you allow the tasks to run for the duration of your preferred runtime plus 4 hours. They should complete normally. Perhaps one task is "waiting for memory"? And yes, if only one is running on a HT or dual core machine, the time to complete will take about twice as long as when both run at the same time.

The Vista machine is the one with the problem. Only Rosetta has the problem. Boinc 6.6.20. The problem is that one task will take 3 hours, and then a task will take 30 hours. If I restart the computer, Rosetta resets for a while and then goes back to taking forever, so I have to restart again. I don't have the time to babysit Rosetta, so...

Do the tasks that run for so long ever complete? I don't see any in your task list, so I take it they do not. Hence trying to suspend them and seeing them reset to dramatically less elapsed time.

I am unclear if the task is getting 30 hours of CPU time, or if perhaps it is waiting for memory or something and just seeing the elapsed time (which is now what the v6.6 BOINC Manager is showing) go up, but not actually getting CPU time.

But from what I see, if you were waiting for memory, the elapsed time stops incrementing as well. So the time to completion is not modified. And so that is probably not the issue.

Can you open the properties for such a task and confirm what is shown for the CPU time, elapsed time, and the CPU time at last checkpoint?

I reinstalled Boinc 6.2.19 and the Rosetta is running with no problems.

Thanks to all for advice and information.
