I just joined the whole BOINC thing less than a week ago from previously being on the classic SETI@home account. I'm using Rosetta@home on the BOINC software I initially downloaded (Version 5.2.6) but started having issues connecting to the server and was told to download and install version 5.2.12 of the BOINC software. When I did this, I noticed a HUGE drop in my hardrive space (about 12 GB) and my computer became very sluggish. I found the culprit to be the stderr.txt file in the Rosetta slot of the BOINC folder in my program files. (it was over 11.7 GB).

I've since uninstalled and reinstalled the BOINC software on my computer and it seems to be running fine now. That same stderr.txt file is now less than 1 KB in size.

I don't know how peculiar this quesiton is going to be but, is that file going to rapidly increase in size again as I continue to run Rosetta@home? Is my computer not powerful enough to handle Rosetta@home? I'm running an AMD Athalon XP 1700+, 1.46 GHz, 512 MB of RAM, with Windows XP Pro.

Anyone have any insights?

I haven`t seen and heard of this problem but your pc is powerful enough and the stderr.txt can raise only by errors but not so high only some KB`s. So if your pc is running fine now don`t worry about that ;)
