From more than one week, BOINC doesn't download WU's. Why?

Need more information than that to help. I downloaded happily this morning and yesterday morning so no problem on the site.

What message are you getting in teh BOINCmanager?
What is the (%age) resource share for Rosetta?
What is your 'Connect to' setting?
What is your cache setting?

Here is a description of some possible reasons and things to look for.

I'm also not downloading any work units, so my computer is doing nothing. (I detached from all other projects because I couldn't find a setting to give a high percentage to Rosetta). I've checked the disk space, and all the tabs on all the menu options I can see in the BOINC manager. I'm pretty angry and frustrated, actually. The messages say simply "2010-08-28 1:51:49 PM rosetta@home Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks" which doesn't give me the slightest clue as to WHY I got no new tasks.

If I use that 'debt' tool, by the way, I get this:
rosetta@home 76.763672 0.000000 100.000000
if that helps.

My other computer (of lesser capability) is still going nicely, with one task pending... so why does rosetta hate THIS computer? Why won't it tell me, and how do I go about debugging it?

{-sigh-} never mind, it's working again now. I'm still none the wiser! While I was trying to get this computer (pikachu) to fetch a task, my other computer (turtwig) finished one, sent it off and fetched another (and one to wait on) quite happily, and yet I still couldn't force pikachu to fetch just one (for its four cores!). However, I went out shopping, and when I returned, sure enough, it's working on four tasks, and two queued up.

I do think, especially for newcomers, the messages and debug information could be clearer.

If there were anything on your end that would have changed the outcome, the message tends to indicate that. Detaching from other projects and leaving only a single project that isn't sending out much work the past couple of days isn't going to help anything. I hope you will find that leaving things alone, with backup projects configured, and not worrying about day-to-day variations in what is being worked on will relieve the anger and frustration.

The main thing to look at is whether you are requesting more work, or not. That is one of the messages the comes before the server's reply. If your machine were not requesting more work when otherwise sitting idle, that would be something to begin to wonder about.

Andy, there probably isn't anything wrong on your end, this normally smoothly running project is having some server problems, so that workunits have been going out very sporadically, if at all. If the past is any guide, this will be cleared up fairly soon and everything should be back to normal.

I haven't been able to get any Rosetta work units for the past two days, so I have been running another project.

By the way, are you related to the french horn player Alan Civil?

Thank you both, I seem to be running 'normally' now, so perhaps I was just impatient... but it was weird to see Turtwig fetch a task in advance when Pikachu wouldn't fetch one even though idle.

Mike

It's unlikely. People acquire the name "Civil" because their ancestors were called Saville or Kivell but they were 'alternatively spelt' at a time when spelling was simply a matter of phonetics.
