I was running seti@home and decided to add Rosetta@home to the same PC (32 bit Windows 7, Basic Dell machine with Intel Core2, Quad CPU Q9400, 4GB memory) I've had to suspend the Rosetta processing because either the system rebooted or I received the blue screen of death. This has happened 3 times and can't afford to lose what I'm working on when it happens. No problems with seti@home running alone...haven't tried rosetta@home alone yet. |

R@h does use a significant amount of memory. Often 250MB per active task. Your machine is only reporting 3.2GB of memory (that's the max for 32bit Windows, right?). Are you also running memory intensive applications? (i.e. the stuff you are working on that you cannot afford to lose). Since other users are not reporting BSODs, it would seem there is something unstable about this machine, and perhaps R@h just pushed on that weakness or pushed it over the edge in some way. Have you tried running memory stress tests on the machine? Whether running 4 R@h tasks or a mix of R@h and SETI should not make a difference. But perhaps 4 R@h tasks and the memory they collectively try to use is pushing your machine a bit. You might try limiting BOINC to 3 CPUs or reduce the % of memory that BOINC is allowed to use. If that makes a difference, it still feels like there is a memory problem somewhere that is behind the problem. For more help, more people will see your post if you place it on the Number Crunching board. Rosetta Moderator: Mod.Sense |
